• THE WINES

Refering to our region’s history we particularly grow Riesling.

Our range of dry Rieslings consists of four levels: we move from the Rheingau Rieslings which form the origin related base segment across the village Rieslings to our steep slope Riesling “Terra Montosa” and the Grand Crus that represent the very unique character of each site.

Besides our Rieslings we also attend to work on both lighter and more complexe Pinots, aged in small french wooden barrels. The lighter Burgundies round out our Rheingau Segment.

Our portfolio is rounded off by wines of historic grape varieties as well as a small range of sparkling wines.
Beyond that, various cooperation projects with befriended winemakers or ambitious gastronomic establishments enrich our everyday life.

We are part of the “Wine in Moderation”-program, an international project that campaigns for moderate consumption of wine.

In accordance with the certification by „Fair’n Green“, we also produce climate-neutral:

  • Berg Roseneck
  • Berg Roseneck
  • GRAND CRU

Only the best Rieslings from the best barrels carry their site name on the label. The Grand Cru wines from the slopes of Rüdesheim (Berg Roseneck, Berg Rottland, Berg Schlossberg), Rauenthal Nonnenberg and Lorch Pfaffenwies stand out through their complexity and enormous aging potential. The individuality of each of our five single vineyard wines is characterised by their microclimate and also through geological diversity.

Since 1980 the labels of our grand cru Berg Schlossberg have been created by artists from all over the world.
The label of our 2022 Berg Schlossberg has been created by artist Martijn van Berkum. It is the fourty-third artist label edited by GEORG BREUER.

    >> ART & WINE

The single sites Berg Roseneck, Berg Rottland, Berg Kaisersteinfels and Berg Schlossberg form the famous Rüdesheim Berg.
The local vine plantings belong to the oldest in Rüdesheim.

The wines of Berg Roseneck are strongly soil emphasized and of a long life span.

With their flavours of apricot the wines of Berg Rottland are maybe the most subtle of the Rüdesheim Berg. Here the first vineyards were planted in the year 1074.

It is indisputable that Berg Schlossberg is the top vineyard site of Rüdesheim.
The slaty and rich in quarzite soils produce a dry wine full of refinements with a bouquet of extensive flavours, particularly characterized by delicate notes of ripe peach and nuts.

The single site Nonnenberg belongs to our estate alone.
The southerly exposed site consists predominantly of deep phyllite soils with deposits of gravel.
The wines from Nonnenberg are powerful with delicate, partly exotic nuances of flavours.

The vineyard site Pfaffenwies was initially mentioned as ‘pafenwies’ (in the document from 1211) and later as ‘pfaffenwissen’ (1235). It was named after Pastor Dydo, also known as ‘Pfaffe’.
This steep site (with slopes up to 45 percent) is situated between 90 to 160 meters above the see level. The soil here is a combination of stony Hunrück slate and Taunus quartzite, with loess in the lower parts.
Riesling from this area is characterized by great elegance as well as pronounced acidity and minerality.

    >> RHEINGAU MAP OF CLASSIFIED SITES

We offer the newest vintage en primeur sale (info@georg-breuer.com) in autumn of the year following the harvest.
That means that we will offer the vintage 2023 in autumn 2024. Shipment will then follow in March 2025.

  • TERRA MONTOSA

To achieve a stringent selection in the Grand Cru wines, we have been combining the second best sites from the top single vineyards to create our Terra Montosa, since the vintage 1990.
The name “Terra Montosa” comes from Latin “steep land” found in a certificate dated 1074, which records the original wine growing history of the vineyards in the Rüdesheim slopes.

  • VILLAGE RIESLING

The village Rieslings represent through character and palate, the different attributes of the vineyard sites in Rüdesheim, Rauenthal and Lorch. Rüdesheim and Lorch bring strong minerality and stone fruit aromas from steep, slate and quartz soil. Rauenthal brings fine citrus aromas from clay and gravel, deep phyllite slate soil.

Around new year 2001/2002 deep drillings have taken place in various vineyard sites of Rüdesheim, in order to examine the soil for the planned train tunnel crossing the hills behind the town.
We took the chance and kept 4 drilling cores from the vineyard sites Bischofsberg/Hinterhaus, whose grapes are generally being used to produce our Village Wine the Rüdeheim Estate, after the examinations.
The artist Michael Wolf combined them into an installation which has been put up between Vinotheque and the entrance to Breuer’s Kellerwelt.

The base of our quality pyramid is formed by our Rheingau Wines.
Aiming to help the two Rieslings find their own character while they develop in steel tanks, the same ground rules apply for them as for our other wines. “Charm” (French: charming) is the half dry pendant to the dry “Sauvage” (French: wild, untamed).
The Pinot Gris and the Pinot Noir – called “Gris” and “Rouge” – ripen in large wooden barrel and show the light and fruity characteristics of their variety.

There are some wine years in which noble rot (Botrytis cinera) settles in various grapes. This shrivels individual grapes producing concentrated sugar and aroma levels. Through stringent hand picking selection in the harvest, individual grapes are separated. The complete healthy, ripe grapes for the dry wines and the individual affected grapes sorted out for the noble rot wines.

  • HISTORICAL WINE

Since the year 2000, we have been cultivating the almost forgotten grape variety Orlèans, vinified in small wooden barrels. Orlèans has been a part of the regions wine history for the last century and has called Rheingau home. Today we have planted Orlèans on the slopes of Berg Schlossberg.

With the same care with which we develop our wines, we also create sparkling wine from small sites of Riesling and Pinot varieties.
Our “Georg Breuer Brut” is a unique Cuvee. Since 1987 it has been produced from specifically grown vineyards of Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. This exceptional sparkling wine matures in the bottle on the fine lees for 11 years before it is disgorged in batches.

  • VENTURE

Riesling is a passion… and sharing this passion is the greatest fun! After a long collaboration and a strong exchange we have started a strong and sustainable cooperation with Weingut Bernhard Mehrlein from Oestrich-Winkel and our winemaker Markus Lundén. First Result: a Riesling Cuvée, standing for lightness, a fine sweet-acidity-match presenting the Rheingau in best shape. The modern label shows the river Rhine, who characterizes our region. Together we want to tease people and present an entrance in the world of Rheingau-Wines.
The Cuvée is being bottled by Weingut Bernhard Mehrlein.

  • PROJECT “WURZELWERK”

Since 2016 we are part of the grape exchange project “Wurzelwerk”: during harvest the estates Jurtschitsch, Kamptal in Lower Austria, Gunderloch, Rheinhessen, and Georg Breuer provide one another with grapes from one of their top sites and start exploring the terroir: how does a vineyard express itself in a foreign cellar? What gives the tone?

The wines from project “Wurzelwerk” can be purchased in our vinotheque as well as over the homepage of Wurzelwerk.

    3×3 wines in the „Set of 9“, each 0,5l

Further information on the project “Wurzelwerk” can be found on www.wurzelwerk.org.

  • RARE WINES

Well-aging wines have a tradition in the Rheingau.
Every year again we are trying our best to produce wines that boast this longevity. Our first continous efforts into that direction go back to the early eighties of last century.
But also the Rheingau itself has a history reaching way back and for many years we have been collecting aged wines from the Rheingau that we partly offer in our restaurant Breuer’s Rüdesheimer Schloss and also in rare wine tastings.

Furthermore in the mid-nineties of last century we started to replant a few vines of the historic and once legendary variety of Orleans in the Rüdesheim Berg Schlossberg.

Please contact us via phone (+49 (0) 6722 1027) or via E-mail ( info@georg-breuer.com ) for further information on our rare wines.
